What is outreach?

“Outreach is the activity of providing services to any population that might not otherwise have access to those services. A key component of outreach is that the group providing it is not stationary, but mobile; in other words, it involves meeting someone in need of an outreach service at the location where they are. In addition to delivering services, outreach has an educational role, raising the awareness of existing services. It includes identification of under-served populations and service referral. “

Basically, our Goal at Green Cedar Consulting is to help you and your organization to expand your base, and reach out beyond your traditional horizons. We would like to assist you so that your message and your service reaches to multicultural communities in a:

  • effective

  • efficient, and

  • timely manner

Outreach to New Canadians requires dedication, and understanding. A successful outreach requires creativity, and knowledge of your audience. Those would only happen when you are connected and have deep roots in your target community.

Our experience in Green Cedar Consulting goes back to years of support to political and government organizations in different levels, in the lower mainland. What started as a humble translation of documents for the legislature is now a system that can cater to your team in reaching their goals and build strong and lasting connections with the community.

Outreach vs Translation

While translation is a very important element of a multilingual outreach campaign, it is not ‘outreach’ on its own. First of all, it is essential for a translator to understand the topic at hand and the audience to be able to provide a successful translation. Often times, word for word translation of documents, without proper understanding and background of the organization, its mission, vision, and message, combined with a lack of adequate connection with your target community results in translations that are rough, confusing, and ineffective. On the other hand, some times one might think that because your target community is ‘good in english’, you do not need to have a strong outreach (including robust translation of materials) to have a successful outreach to them. While this might be true for many new Canadians, they may still need your support in getting introduced to our organizations and systems.
